5 WAYS YOU CAN EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR CAR

Vehicles are designed to last for at least a decade. Some properly maintained ones can do two decades or more.                                                                       No vehicle can do that much if a proper maintenance culture is not cultivated. Here are five useful practices you need to adopt if you want to extend the life of your car.

  1. Regular Maintenance: following your car’s recommended maintenance schedule for oil changes, filter replacements and fluid check will help lengthen your car’s life. Ensure that services and repairs are done on regular intervals. Missing the professional services can result in shortening the life of the car.
  • Gentle Driving: To be a gentle Driver, you must cultivate some good driving habits. Avoid harsh acceleration, sudden stops and speeding as they can put excessive wears and tears on your engine. As a matter of fact, if you drive in a manner that you hear the sound of your engine while cruising, you are killing your engine.  Accelerating while the engine is still cold can actually hasten the death of your car. Avoid full throttle before the engine heats up. Avoid driving recklessly, take note of portholes and avoid them. But if you must drive on them, slow down and maneuver through carefully. No matter how perfectly the manufacturers made a car’s suspension, it will break at some point if driven carelessly. Reckless driving through portholes will affect the car’s suspension adversely and might break the rims too.                                  Putting a heavy foot on the brakes will harm the brake pads and rotors. You want to avoid heavy foot on the brake.
  • Proper Care: Regularly wash your car to remove dirt and debris that can damage the paint job. Keep the interior clean to prevent dust and crumbs from accumulating.
  • Monitor Fluids: Regularly check and top up fluid levels like engine oil, coolant, brake fluid and power steering fluids. Doing this also includes ensuring that there is enough fuel in your car. Your fuel pump which uses coils needs to be properly submerged in fuel. This helps to always cool it and not heated up. Driving with barely enough fuel to submerge it, will always get it heated and damaged before long.
  • Tire care: Maintain proper tire pressure, rotate your tires regularly and check the thread depth to ensure safe driving. Rotating your tires regularly includes driving your car frequently. Proper alignment of tires should be taken seriously as they make huge impact on the performance of the car. Inappropriate alignment can result in tire imbalance and cause road accidents.
